For those of us wanting a reason to release our inner child – and let’s face it, who doesn’t? – the Sydney Brick Show at David Jones on Elizabeth Street provides the perfect blend of nostalgia and intrigue. A space on level seven has been transformed into a LEGO utopia, featuring intricate designs like “The Love Boat,” a colossal cruise ship constructed by certified LEGO genius Ryan McNaught, aka ‘The Brickman’.

Activities range from interactive displays to workshops with the Brickman himself. A giant pit overflows with thousands of colourful little cubes begging to be built. As screaming children’s legs become imprinted with LEGO marks from sitting in the pit too long, awestruck adults can gaze at the complex creations before them. LEGO fan or not, something about being in a room filled with bright blocks seems to make adults regress in the best way.

For those seeking a classy LEGO outing (because apparently this exists), there will be an evening charity event on April 26, allowing adults to browse the exhibit sans crowds while sipping a cocktail. All event proceeds will go to Bear Cottage, part of the children’s hospital at Westmead.
Note: bookings are essential for Sydney Brick Show.
